#18 Green Dragon Marionette
The #18 Green Dragon Marionette is a fully hand-carved and hand-painted dragon puppet of unique, collectible quality. It was completed between late January and early February 2022. The creator is Viktor Szilveszter Fülöp (artist name: Sylvester V Philip), who crafted this piece as his eighteenth one-of-a-kind marionette. The figure embodies a fusion of classic puppet-making traditions and a modern artistic vision.
The puppet has a body length of approximately 16.5 inches (42 cm) and a wingspan of about 23.6 inches (60 cm). It weighs less than 2.2 lbs (under 1 kg), making it lightweight, easy to maneuver, yet structurally stable.
The base of the marionette is carved from European white cedar (Thuja occidentalis), complemented by a painted and lacquered surface, fabric and textile elements, and precisely mounted steel screws and wire. Movement is controlled by cords connected to a classic wooden control cross. The cross shows light wear but remains fully functional. The head, wing, and body mechanisms are stable and responsive, suitable even for stage performance.
Its standout visual features include vibrant colors, intricate painting, and a unique dragon character. A pictogram and the number “18” are marked on the bottom of the figure, indicating that it is a numbered, one-of-a-kind piece (1/1). The number also confirms it is the eighteenth individually crafted marionette by the artist. Every component is handmade—there was no industrial duplication.
